CBD is becoming more and more popular as people continue to experience the incredible benefits that it can have on both the mind and body, improving conditions such as chronic pain and anxiety.

If you’re interested in trying CBD but don’t know where to start, we’ve put together the below guide to answer some of the most common questions and queries, as well as clearing up some of the common misconceptions surrounding CBD.

WHAT IS CBD?

CBD (cannabidiol) is an active compound found in the cannabis plant, as well as THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) which is well known for its psychoactive properties (makes you ‘high’).

CBD is non psychoactive, meaning that it doesn’t leave you ‘high’ or ‘stoned’ but still delivers a number of the same medical benefits as THC.

CBD products are legal across the UK and the majority of countries/states.

WHAT ARE THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF CBD?

CBD can be used to benefit both physical and mental health, it is mainly used for:

  • Pain relief
  • Reducing anxiety and depression
  • Alleviating cancer-related symptoms
  • Reducing acne
  • Heart health

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF CBD?

Generally speaking, CBD is very well tolerated and is considered safe to consume, however, may cause side effects such as:

  • Diarrhea
  • Fatigue/tiredness
  • Changes in appetite

If you’re currently on prescription medication, we would advise speaking with your GP before trying CBD, to avoid any adverse reactions.

WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO TAKE CBD?

CBD can come in a variety of forms, such as:

  • Tinctures
  • Sprays
  • Capsules/pills
  • Topical creams and ointments
  • Vapes
  • Editibles

The form you choose is generally just based on personal preference – some people aren’t keen on ingestibles and would rather opt for a topical cream or ointment.

The biggest difference between the many forms is how quickly the effects happen and how long they last, however this will also depend on the strength of the CBD (usually measured in mg).

HOW MUCH CBD SHOULD I TAKE?

We always recommend starting out with a lower dose and slowly increasing the strength/amount over the course of a few months, depending on your body’s reaction.

For those looking to reduce severe anxiety or chronic pain, it’s likely that you’ll need a higher dose (around 700mg + daily) in order to experience the best results. For less critical conditions, a lower dose should suffice.
